Mirabeau Water Garden

The Mirabeau Water Garden is a 25-acre site in New Orleans’ Filmore neighborhood designed to store up to 10 million gallons of stormwater while also serving as a space for recreation and environmental learning. The land was donated to the City of New Orleans by the Congregation of St. Joseph for use to enhance and protect the neighborhood. The water garden vision is based on innovative site design and stormwater management features developed in the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan.

The Hawthorne Agency worked closely with Waggonner & Ball Architects in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Community Engagement Plan that meaningfully educated stakeholders, fostered their sense of ownership, and promoted consensus building to the benefit of the project’s design process.
